The Department of Medicine is a center for teaching, clinical care, and research within the University of Mississippi Medical Center and is committed to providing outstanding service to the people of the State of Mississippi.

The Department of Medicine seeks to promote the health and well being of Mississippians by training health professionals who will care for the state’s citizens, by doing research that adds to man’s knowledge about disease and health, and by treating the illnessess of patients who come to our hospitals from all of the state’s 82 counties.

As the state’s only health sciences campus, the institution also is committed to the community at large as a source for health information and science instruction.

The Department Of Medicine has four missions:

1. To provide outstanding teaching and education in the specialties within the department;
2. To provide the best available health care for individuals and families;
3. To advance medical research in the clinical setting; and
4. To provide exemplary leadership in medicine throughout the state and nation.
