Description

  • Introduction to Clinical Medicine (ICM)

    Students learn the sciences basic to the study of medicine, participate in clinical correlations, and are introduced to patients in the clinical surroundings. ICM consists of 162 clock hours of teaching in small groups, case presentations, one-on-one preceptor teaching and lectures.

  • Medical Education 3rd Year

    Students in the third (3rd) year are divided into eight (8) groups and rotate through medicine in groups of two (2) for twelve (12) weeks. This rotation consists of eight (8) weeks of house medicine divided equally between University Medical Center (UMC) and Veterans Administration (VA), two (2) weeks of ambulatory medicine at the Jackson Medical Mall and two (2) weeks of neurology. Also, weekly didactic lectures are given from each division of Internal Medicine.

  • Medical Education 4th Year

    The fourth (4th) year consists of eight (8) required calendar month blocks which may be taken anytime during the eleven (11) months available from July through May. Core requirements include Medicine 651, a core course in Pediatrics and a core course in Surgery, and students must take three (3) ambulatory rotations and one (1) other impatient rotation to Medicine 651. Fourth (4th) year students are required to attend ten (10) Senior Seminar Series and complete Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
