Under the leadership of Michael Winniford, MD, Division Director, Director of the Center For Advanced Heart and Vascular Care, and vice chair of the departments of Medicine and Surgery, the Division of Cardiology Diseases continues to grow and is now home to 12 faculty members and 14 fellows.
The Division and Center For Advanced Heart and Vascular Care offer diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases, stress testing, heart perfusion imaging, echocardiography, cardiac catheterization, coronary and peripheral angioplasty and stent treatment, advanced cardiac imaging with CT and MR scans, electrophysiology procedures (including catheter ablation for arrhythmias, biventricular pacemaker placement for heart failure, and cardiac defibrillator implantation to prevent sudden cardiac death), evaluation and management of heart failure, evaluation and management of adult congenital heart disease, and heart transplantation.
The Division's fellowship program, under the interim direction of Thomas Skelton, MD, has expanded to 14 fellows, with two interventional fellowship positions.
To honor the memory of Dr. Patrick H. Lehan, the Patrick H. Lehan Professor of Cardiovascular Research has been established and will be recruited in 2008. After coming to UMC in 1966, Dr. Lehan served as Professor of Cardiology 1968-1973, director of the Division of Cardiology 1970-1995, as well as a term as Chief of Staff of University Hospital.
